First, the Cancer Support Community's 2011 Cancer Summit was, as always, a very inspiring and enlightening event! The National Cancer Summit, together with our annual CSC Affiliate Leadership Conference, was held once again at the beautiful Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC.
Kim Thiboldeaux, president and CEO of CSC, and her wonderful colleagues at the CSC head office were so warm and welcoming. Together, they led affiliates and partners from all over the US and from around the globe in discussing over several days the shared successes and challenges facing our support communities as we move into 2012 and beyond.
At the conclusion of our Leadership Conference, over a hundred attendees joined us at the National Cancer Summit. This year's Summit focused on the theme: Cancer Care for the Whole Patient: Meeting Psychosocial Health Needs. The Summit was highlighted by talks by Dr. Stephen Edge, Chair of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, Dr. Roger Herdman, Director of the Board on Health Care Services of the Institute of Medicine, and Dr. Allen Lichter, CEO of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Susan Dentzer, the Health Issues Analyst of PBS NewsHour, moderated a very interesting and lively discussion.
And after a stimulating and engaging conference, well, it's fall! So I took the time to shoot a couple of videos highlighting this most beautiful time of the year, especially here on the US east coast.
